Asia’s 1st Vertical-Automated Container Terminal in Korea

[CLO] BNCT is proud to commence operations on January 28 at 23:00 hrs., with the calling of the 1st vessel; the M/V AKARI. The call marks the start of KMTC’s weekly IHS service between Incheon and Hong Kong and was celebrated by a traditional ceremony on the vessel with the Captain, the Crew, senior BNCT and KMTC officials, and BPA(Busan Port Authority) officials.

BNCT CCO, Mr. Peter Slootweg, comments that “This is a very exciting and special moment for BNCT and KMTC, as it marks the end of months of training and practice with the latest equipment and technology by BNCT’s already highly experienced operations staffs and the beginning of nothing less than superior terminal performance and full service to KMTC and all other customers in Korea for many years to come.”

Terminal Facts:
BNCT (Busan New Container Terminal) is an independent full-service container terminal with an initial capacity of about 1.8 million TEU going up to 2.7 million TEU by 2014. As the most advanced terminal in Korea and the 1st vertical-automated in Asia, BNCT can berth 4 of the world’s largest container vessels simultaneously at 1,400 meters of Quay with 16-17m water depth.
